Our Mission, Belief, and Roles
The Gateway High School Guidance Department is committed to empowering every student to achieve academic success, personal growth, and college and career readiness. Through a comprehensive, student-centered counseling program, we provide equitable access to resources, meaningful guidance, and individualized support that meets the diverse needs of our school community.
We believe all Gateway High School students have the potential to succeed and deserve equitable access to comprehensive guidance, support, and opportunities that empower them to achieve their academic, personal, and postsecondary goals.
At Gateway High School, our Guidance Counselors role is to:
- Support students’ academic planning, goal setting, and progress toward graduation
- Provide social-emotional support and counseling to promote student well-being
- Guide students in college, career, and postsecondary planning
- Assist with course selection and ensure students meet graduation requirements
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and administrators to support student success
- Connect students and families with school and community resources
- Monitor student data to identify needs and provide targeted interventions
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment
