Meet your Leadership Team
Mr. James Long
James.Long@osceolaschools.net
I grew up in Colorado and studied journalism at Metropolitan State College of Denver. I spent 10 years working in newspapers across the Denver and Seattle areas before transitioning into education—a field that I’ve loved for the past 23 years.
I began my teaching career as a biology teacher at Douglas County High School before moving to 7th grade language arts. My last few years I moved to the elementary level, teaching 6th and 3rd grades. I also coached high school wrestling for six years.
After earning my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction – Technology, I moved into an assistant principal role at Castle Rock Elementary School. I later became an Assistant Principal at Highlands Ranch High School before becoming the principal at Mapleton Early College and later York International School in Thornton, CO.
In 2018, I relocated to Florida to take the helm at Gateway High School. I’m a Proud Panther through and through.
Outside of education, I love spending time with my amazing wife and vising our two grown sons who live in Texas.

Mr. L. Allen Howard Jr. Lonnie.Howard@osceolaschools.net
I've dedicated 12 years to education, gaining diverse experience as an 8th-grade teacher, instructional coach, dean, and testing coordinator. Before that, I proudly served our country for nine years in the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army National Guard. This service instilled in me a deep commitment to leadership, teamwork, and a mission-driven approach, values I bring to my work in schools every day. High school is a crucial time for students, and I'm eager to collaborate with everyone to create an environment where every student feels supported, challenged, and empowered to reach their full potential. Building strong relationships with students, staff, and families through open communication and teamwork is something I truly value.
