Reading Course Offerings

Intensive Reading courses provide targeted support for students who need extra help improving their reading skills. These classes focus on strengthening foundational abilities such as decoding, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency through personalized instruction and practice. The goal is to help students build confidence and catch up to grade-level reading proficiency.

  • Intensive Reading 1 is a focused reading course designed to develop students' close reading skills through detailed analysis of shorter texts. It emphasizes vocabulary building, comprehension, grammar, and critical thinking by engaging with complex passages, often including literary or academic materials. The goal is to improve accuracy, deepen understanding, and enhance language proficiency in a structured and supportive environment.

  • Intensive Reading 2 builds on the skills developed in Intensive Reading 1 by engaging students with more challenging texts and complex language structures. This course focuses on refining comprehension, expanding vocabulary, and strengthening critical analysis through detailed study of varied genres, including fiction, nonfiction, and academic texts. Students practice advanced reading strategies to improve fluency and deepen their understanding of nuanced meanings and themes.

  • Intensive Reading 3 is an advanced course that further develops students’ critical reading and analytical skills through in-depth study of complex texts. It emphasizes interpreting themes, evaluating arguments, and understanding stylistic and rhetorical devices across diverse genres. Students enhance their ability to read critically and thoughtfully, preparing them for higher-level academic reading and discussions.

  •  Intensive Reading 4 is a high-level course focused on mastering critical and analytical reading skills through rigorous examination of sophisticated texts. Students engage with complex literary and academic materials, analyzing deeper meanings, author intentions, and advanced language features.

  • English Language Development (ELD) is a specialized program designed to support English learners in building their proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. It focuses on developing essential language skills through targeted instruction, vocabulary expansion, grammar practice, and cultural understanding. The goal of ELD is to help students become confident and effective communicators in academic and social settings.
