Through promoting reading appreciation, teaching information literacy skills, providing access to intellectual resources, facilitating critical thinking and independent learning. The Osceola County School District's library programs contribute to student achievement and the support of lifelong learning.

When is the media center open?

Monday - Thursday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Friday, 7:00 AM - 2:30 PM
You may come before and after school without a pass.
During class a pass is required from your teacher.
To visit the media center during lunch, stop by any time before lunch to get a pass or ask one of your teachers to write a pass for you. The front office will no longer issue passes to visit the media center during lunch.
 

Food and Drink

Food and drinks may be brought into the media center. However, while eating your lunch or snack, you will sit at one of the tables away from the computers. Once you finish your lunch or snack, you are then expected to throw your garbage away in the trash can and clean your table. Sanitizer wipes are available at the circulation desk. No beverages (drinks) will be allowed at or near the computers. You may keep a bottle of water with a cap on the floor near your chair while you work on the computer. If you are unable to follow these rules and/or do not clean up after yourself, then you may be banned from bringing food and drinks into the media center.
 

How do I locate a book I want to read?

From school or from home use our Destiny Catalog, searching by author, title, or subject. See any media staff member for help in locating materials. You can access Destiny through ClassLink. All students, instructional staff and support staff have their own login to Destiny. You will first need to click on the school name (Gateway High School) from the list of schools, then in the top right corner click "Log In". You will then be prompted to enter your username and password. Your username and password is your student ID number with the leading zero, for example 077777. If you are a district employee, your username and password is you employee ID number. Your employee ID number is found on the back of your ID Badge under the barcode.

How many things may I check out?

AR books, or other books-2 at a time.
Magazines-2 at a time.
Audio books-1 at a time.
Graphic novels- 3 at a time.
 

How long may I keep the items I checked out?

Most books may be kept for two weeks. Some reference and college and testing books have shorter checkout times. Magazines may be checked out for two days.
 

How do I check out a book?

Bring the items you want and your ID card to the circulation desk. You must have an ID card to check out a book.
 

What if I don’t have an ID?

Students and staff are expected to always have their ID displayed on their bodies at all times when on campus for safety reasons. If you lose your ID, you may visit Student Finance to obtain a new one for a fee. 


Where do I return the items I have checked out?

Everything should be returned to the book drop located at the media center circulation desk.
 

How will I know when to return the items I borrow?

You may look at your Destiny record to see what you have checked out and when it is due.
 

Do you charge fines?

Yes. Overdue fines are .05 per day per book. If you have fines or overdue books you will need to pay your fines and return your books before you may check out more materials. Weekends and holidays are not counted.


What happens if I lose a book or it is damaged while I have it checked out?

You are responsible for anything that is checked out in your name. If you lose it or it is damaged, you will have to pay the replacement cost of the item. Never check out a book for a friend because you will have to pay the cost if he or she loses or damages it.
 

What are the advantages to logging in and checking my Destiny account regularly?

See what you have checked out and when it is due, including any fines or holds you have placed
Renew an item yourself from home or school
Send book recommendations to friends with Destiny Quest features
Add to the Media Center “Wish List” when you want us to buy a new book
Add Reviews to books you like so others can read your review
Add books to your list that you want to read in the future
Set preferences if you want friends to see what you are reading or want to read next
Look at the “Recent Arrivals”-new books the Media Center just purchased
Destiny will make suggestions for books you might like based on what you already have read
 

Do I have internet access?

Yes. All of the media center computers have internet access. However, all work must be school related.
 

How do I print from the computers?

Printing from the computers is .10 per page in black and white.
Color printing is .25 per page. The default printer is for black and white.

Please save paper by looking at Print Preview to see which pages you want to print and select only those pages before you print.
 

What else should I know?

All materials must be checked out of the media center. Any items not checked out will set off the alarm and will be treated as theft.
