The purpose of this course is to provide students with instruction in English language skills, including writing, speaking, and listening, and to read and analyze various literary selections.


The purpose of this course is to provide instruction in English language skills, in the study of world literature, and in the development of composition skills. Course content includes grammar, vocabulary, reference skills, public speaking, and writing.


This course includes the frequent writing of papers, especially those that require reference and summarizing skills. American literature is studied through the analysis of various genres, and instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing are included.


The purpose of this course is to provide students with instruction in language skills through the study of British Literature. Course content includes vocabulary building, literary analysis, public speaking, and listening skills. All aspects of the writing process are applied in frequent writing.



The purpose of this course is to provide integrated educational experiences in the language arts strands of reading, writing, listening, viewing, speaking, language and literature


The Advanced Placement Language & Composition course is designed to help college-bound students accomplish an exceptional level of independent achievements as analytical readers, effective writers, and confident, scholarly speakers. In order to accomplish this purpose, works will be used that expose a variety of writing styles and contexts. While this course is technically focused, the curriculum also promotes a 
global perspective through comparison, contrast, and consistent reflection.


This course, designed for college level students, focuses on the analysis of genres of literature. The impact, influences and power of language will be studied through a wide range of literature genres. Emphasis on the analytical process through writing is a dominant component of this course. Students will focus on their vocabulary knowledge with the emphasis on the importance of varied diction. All genres of literature; short story, novel, drama, and poetry will be addressed through this course. Students will be expected to achieve an exceptional level of independent achievements through the course focus. The course is designed as preparation for the AP test in May.



The purpose of this course is to provide instruction in basic aspects of journalism, with workshop experiences in journalistic production. Students will learn how to write features, conduct interviews, gather news, write for publication, design layouts, and set copy. This is a yearbook or newspaper class.


The purpose of this course is to improve the reading proficiency of struggling readers through extensive instructional intervention. The content will include remediation through explicit instruction and student practice in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. In addition, emphasis will be placed on building critical thinking, test taking skills and comprehension strategies. Placement in the class will be dictated by the students’ reading levels based on current achievement data from reliable and valid assessments.


This course prepares students for entry level College Reading. Major topics include argument, bias, supporting details, fact and opinion, inferences, main ideas, organizational patterns and relationships, purpose and tone, and vocabulary in context. This course is targeted for 12th graders whose placement scores are below the established cut score indicating that they are not “college-ready” in Reading. Successful completion of this course while in high school will exempt student from further CPT testing/postsecondary remediation if they enroll in a community college within 2 years of completion. Successful completion requires a grade of “C” or better in the course to include a passing score on the Florida College Basic Skills Exit Test, as determined by the partnering postsecondary institution. This is the same exit examination administered to students enrolling in the postsecondary developmental education reading course at the college.
