Principal's Welcome
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Gateway High School.

I am proud and honored to be the principal at Gateway. This promises to be an exciting year for Panther Nation as we embark on our journey toward graduation and beyond. There may be a few changes and some new faces, but our commitment to student learning remains steadfast.

Our No. 1 goal is to help every student graduate with a plan for their future. That plan may include acceptance into a 2- or 4-year college, entrance into the military, or the pursuit of a technical certification. Continuing education helps students acquire the skills necessary to be more marketable in today’s highly competitive careers.

To help with this mission, Gateway has a dedicated staff of professional educators who support and challenge each student every day. We engage in weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to ensure high levels of learning for all students. During these meetings, staff members analyze student data and design instruction that is focused on helping students successfully complete their coursework, achieve state benchmarks, and demonstrate college readiness.

Parents, other family members and the community are also key partners in helping us achieve this goal. At Gateway, we encourage all to be in engaged in creating the best learning environment for all of our students. Please take some time to attend one of the many activities that Gateway has to offer. From our award-winning performing arts department to our rigorous AP and IB classes and from our successful Marine Corps JROTC program to our variety of clubs and sports teams, GHS has something to engage everyone.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school office between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Parents and students are also invited to participate in the monthly School Advisory Council meetings, which assist administration in setting goals for the school. I look forward to a great 2019-20 school year full of exciting and rewarding adventures.

Cheers, Mr. James Long Principal
